Driver’s Hazmat Training (Non-CDL Endorsement)

Provides the training required and outlined under U.S. Department of Transportation Title 49 Code of Federal Regulations (49CFR), Part 172, Subpart H for transporting non-placarded hazmat shipments. This training is mandatory for any driver transporting hazmat without a CDL (less than 1,001lbs).
This course provides familiarity with the requirements of U.S. Department of Transportation Title 49 Code of Federal Regulations (49CFR) and enables the employee/student to recognize and identify hazardous materials consistent with the hazard communication standards. It is a systematic program that ensures a hazmat employee/student has familiarity with most of the requirements of being a hazardous materials driver, and will be able to recognize most hazardous materials and has knowledge of emergency response information, self-protection measures and accident prevention methods and procedures.
NOTE: This training does not meet the requirements for a hazmat endorsement on your commercial drivers license (CDL).

At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:
- Recognize who regulates what in terms of hazardous materials in transportation. United States rules & regulations versus international rules & regulations.
- Be able to define what a hazardous material is.
- Recognize the meaning of most proper marks and labels for a shipment to determine the type of risks it carries.
- Recognize DOT motor vehicle inspection requirements.
- Recognize proper loading, unloading, segregation & compatibility of loads.
- Understand the basic precautions to be taken when handling hazardous materials.
- Recognize security risks related to the transportation of hazardous materials in commerce.
- Be able to understand shipping papers.
- Be able to determine when placarding is necessary.
Through all of this, emphasis will be placed on each student’s responsibility when transporting hazardous material.
