Provides the recurrent training required and outlined under U.S. Department of Transportation Title 49 Code of Federal Regulations (49CFR), Part 172, Subpart H, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG), Section 1.3 and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR), Section 1.5.
This course reviews the skills needed to prepare, offer and accept ground, ocean and/or air shipments of hazardous materials/dangerous goods. It is a systematic program that ensures a hazmat employee/student has familiarity with the changes that have occurred over the past year(s) in hazardous materials/dangerous goods regulations. Instruction will focus on non-bulk packages offered into transportation.
NOTE: This course does not cover the regulations for offering radioactive (Class 7) or infectious shipments into transportation.
- Successful completion of a Hazardous Materials/Dangerous Goods in Multi Modal Transportation class within the past two (2) years.
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:
- Identify changes in the 49CFR, the International Maritime Organization Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR).
- Understand how the changes relate to their organization, their product and to them as an employee.
- Prepare, offer and accept most domestic and international ground, ocean and/or air shipments of hazardous materials/dangerous goods.
- Recognize and identify hazardous materials/dangerous goods in transportation.
- Understand the specific requirements of the regulations as it relates to their job function.
- Understand the precautions to be taken when handling hazardous materials/dangerous goods.
- Recognize security risks related to the transportation of hazardous materials/dangerous goods in commerce.
Through all of this, emphasis will be placed on each student’s responsibility when offering hazardous materials/dangerous goods into ground, ocean and/or air transportation.
